Welcome aboard!

A service built out of the imagination of a gang of twitterers, who met up in real life for a beer one evening, tweetmeetup’s goal is to assist those who usually exchange everyday twitter messages to meet up in person on real life events and gatherings. We provide the tools to organize your events - whether it be for social, networking or business purposes, all free! TweetMeetup allows you to list your events on our site and share the details with both our and your network, in order to ensure maximum participation for your next meetup. Each TweetMeetup can easily be designed to fit your specifications and intents.

The most important thing to remember is to have fun!

“Team Stockholm” on TweetMeetup concluded another meetup earlier this week (read more). We had a sizable turn up (I counted 16 attendees) and this was our first meetup with activities. At the venue, in addition to beer and nice people, there were also a number of Boule lanes, Foosball and a ping-pong table. At first I thought that it would result in Boule tournaments but it turned out that the ping-pong table was the center of attention. Most of us hadn’t been playing in ages but almost everyone was eager to try. It was a lot of fun! This might surely lead to more activity base meetups in the future because this meetup was a huge success.

This weekend I also added some minor improvements to the site. Nothing big but some nice additions never the less and something to whet your appetite for the next big additions. We are looking into content management, meetup polls, improvement to the meetup post design, better internationalization and more. But until then there are some small fixes I deployed today for you:

RSS feeds for both meetups and comments:

Easier to find the “Add a meetup” option, it is now in your sidebar instead of the option page:

In addition to those i have also made a number of minor tweaks to improve readability on the site (added horizontal rulers, tweaked margins, font sizes and more).

I also want to end this post by thanking @Mike1mb for the mention of our site and wish him the best of luck with his next meetup.

We are only at our fifth regular meetup locally here in Stockholm and while there have been both meetups in other parts of Sweden, a first meetup in Norway and an upcoming one in Denmark we weren’t really expecting it to spread quite as quickly as it has. Earlier today the first meetup outside of Europe was concluded in Winchester VA, USA.

It was arranged by @Mike1MB (you can find his blog here). Here, here and here are a few pictures taken at the event.

We hope that this, as it has been the case for us at TweetMeetup Stockholm, is just the first of many meetups to come and that it can act as inspiration to others out there to plan a meetup. It is easy and there are no set rules on how it should be done. The most important thing is to have fun and to meet people, and we have had a tremendous amount of positive response from all the meetups thus far. And the trend is that they are growing, both in size and in numbers. Meeting online is a good way to initiate a contact, meeting offline is an even better one to strengthen it.

The growing number of meetups and the added international spread has highlighted some areas of the site in need of improvement for better handling of international meetups and also increased the need for a way to document the meetups after the fact. Rest assured that both of these areas are being worked on and are expected to have been resolved within the coming week or so.

Until then I wish you all good luck on your next meetups! :)

What can I say? A formidable success! Our first meetup since the site redesign was above and beyond our expectations. New friends, old faces and a complete new venue. Tweetmeetup is certainly in a good shape and the meetup yesterday broke our previous attendee record (20+ people). Next week there is a meetup organized by our friends in Malmö and we wish them the best of luck and sizable turn up!

The site is still very fresh and there is certainly more to come (and soon!) so keep checking back. We are especially looking into ways to help ease spreading the word of your meetups, keeping users who signed up for attendance in the loop for updates and to help you archive and display videos and pictures from your meetups for others to see. We are also looking forward to your own ideas if you have any. If so, please contact us at: ideas@tweetmeetup.com.

Also while I’m at it I might as well dispel some misconceptions we’ve encountered about what Tweetmeetup is and isn’t: Please read our FAQ.

If you have any questions regarding the site or TweetMeetup in general please follow me @Burre83 (or any of the other organizers: @Raiha, @Sharj, @frebro) or email us questions at questions@tweetmeetup.com

See you all at next meetup!
